Elections are very much in the news… tomorrow (after rather a non-election) we will have a new Prime Minister, only the second woman to hold that role in history.
The Labour party will also be called to vote very soon and who would want to predict the result of that contest at such a time as this? Again, a woman is contesting the post.
Hilary Clinton seems to be moving closer to becoming the first female President of the United States, but with a wild card like Donald Trump still on the scene again, there are no safe bets.
Meanwhile, in the heart of Westminster, but on the other side of Parliament Square from the seat of government, Methodists were also casting their votes last week during Conference. The result, as many of you will already know, is that the President and Vice-President of our Conference next year, 2017, will both be women… the official photo gives you a clue to their identities!
Reverend Loraine Mellor will be the 5th female President of the Methodist Conference and I am very much looking forward to getting to know her better as we begin working together. During this year we will start attending various meetings and praying and planning, together and separately, in preparation for our year of office which will officially start on 24th June next year. You can read a bit more about it all here if you should want to do so! At the moment it all feels a bit scary and unreal – but exciting too! Please remember us both in your prayers.
